7 Unrecognized Women Who Never Gave Up


When times get hard we want to give up, but this is the story of seven women who didn't. These women have helped their community and the world when times got bad. They didn't give up on the people who loved them, and most importantly, they didn't give up on themselves. These women inspire people through their impact and goals.



 

Ciara Taylors


Ciara Taylors were 17 when her friend and peer Trayvon Martian was shot and killed. Ciara felt scared and venerable, she felt like danger was lurking around every corner, but that's when she created the organization Dream Defenders. Dream Defenders is a Florida based Youth Organization that teaches the importance of community. Now Ciara teaches around the world about the brave people who made America what it is today. Jasilyn Charger


Jasilyn Charger grew up in the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe where she learned how to respect Mother Earth. Jasilyn has started an organization called Our Climate Voices, this organization is about the importance of thinking about other people, not just yourself. Sonia Guinansaca


When Sonia was little her family immigrated to the US. Sonia thought living in America would be perfect, but as a child, Sonia was bullied and harassed. Charlene Carruthers



Charlene has been discriminated against her whole life, she could never be herself. She has started a charity called BYP 100 ( Black Youth Program 100). To educate the importance of being black. Charlene is now teaching youth the importance of being themselves.

 

Favianna Rodriguez



Favianna is a first-generation Lantin-X. She uses her practice to help the community. Includes visual art, public art, writing, cultural organizing and power building.

She painted a mural for San Franciso. Favianna uses peaceful acts to help immigrants.

Favianna has won countless awards for her heart-breaking pieces of art and movement.

 

Ahed Tamimi



Ahed witnessed the occupation of Palestine. In her efforts, she kicked an Israelian soldier and got arrested. She is now speaking up for her rights as a Palestinian. Ahed was 16 when she was sent to jail. She turned the jail into a study center. Ahed and the inmates would spend hours learning about international law. Ahed aspires to become a lawyer for Palestine.


 

Kay Ulanday Barret



Kay is transgender. She has been discriminated against her whole life.

Kay writes inspiring poems about her struggles and some of the world’s major problems. She teaches people to be who they are through her poetry. Kay has won countless awards for her poetry.
